Automotive Engineering @ CHALMERS

Shabbir Adil

Computer Aided Engineer

Master in Automotive Engineering-Chalmers Batch 2006

I did B.Sc. Mechanical Engineering from U.E.T. Taxila. I worked for three years in Pakistan before I started my master in Chalmers. First thing that fascinated my mind when I chose mechanical Engineering as a career was automobiles. I remember we used to talk about cars like Ferrari, BMW, and Mercedes.

I started searching master programs in Europe and then I found this program in Chalmers and it became my first choice at that time. Master in Automotive Engineering from Chalmers provides professional knowledge and skills that give high value in the job market. Most of my class fellows got job within two to three months of graduation.

The things that you need to concentrate for admission in Chalmers is good grades in B.Sc. engineering. Besides, recommendation letters and letter of motivation play an important part in the selection too. During studies at Chalmers I got a lot of opportunities to work with companies like Saab, Volvo and Scania. Major courses in automotive engineering are related to powertrain, dynamics and vehicle safety. Most of the time at Chalmers is usually spent while doing assignments. Good skills in MATLAB help to do such assignments quite easily. Group assignments with students from different origins provide valuable learning that is possible at Chalmers. This helped me to adjust in multinational company quite easily. Studies seem much tough in the start in Chalmers but as one goes through one or two quarters; it does not feel difficult and rather becomes fun. While studying at Chalmers I got lot of opportunities for social activities that involved people from different origins and hence I learned from them. I was also the board member of Chalmers Islamiska Forening(CIF) and member of Chalmers Students for Sustainability(CSS). Finally I can say that I really enjoyed my studies and time I spent at Chalmers.
